Thank Governor Newsom for Signing Bill Package to Protect + Expand Access to Abortion and Birth Control

As more states enact total or extreme bans on abortion care, California took bold action this legislative session and passed a historic bill package that protects bodily autonomy and expands access to abortion and birth control for all in and out of California!

The bills signed into law include a robust package led by the California Future of Abortion Council (CA FAB Council) and Essential Access Health's sponsored measures SB 523 - the Contraceptive Equity Act of 2022 and AB 32 - Telehealth + Medi-Cal. All of these bills combined will address the current barriers to care experienced by Californians and people traveling to our state to get the care they want and need. The measures also support and protect patients, providers, and organizations now navigating a dangerous post-Roe landscape.

As a Californian who strongly believes that bodily autonomy is a fundamental right and that protecting and expanding access to abortion and birth control are essential for individual and community health, I write to thank you for signing into state law the historic and robust 2022 legislative package led by the California Future of Abortion Council (CA FAB Council). Thank you for also signing SB 523 – The Contraceptive Equity Act of 2022 and AB 32 – Telehealth + Medi-Cal. All of these measures combined will expand and protect access to sexual and reproductive health care for all Californians and those coming to our state to access care they cannot obtain at home in a post-Roe world. <br><br>Thank you for your leadership and outspoken commitment to making California a true Reproductive Freedom State. As more states across the country enact extreme or total abortion bans on abortion care – leaving millions of people without the ability to access legal abortion in their state – California is a beacon of hope and offers a blueprint to what evidence-based and equitable health care looks like.
