Women's Health Protection Act!

In response to the enactment of the unjust and blatantly unconstitutional abortion ban enacted in Texas, the United States House of Representatives passed the Women's Health Protection Act (WHPA) on September 24th.

Sponsored by California Representative Judy Chu, the bill would codify into federal law a person’s ability to decide to continue or end a pregnancy, and preserve the ability of health care providers to provide abortion care without restrictions. The measure also prohibits restrictions that would put a patient’s life or health at risk.

The WHPA is a critical and necessary to protect access to abortion care nationwide.

It’s now up to the Senate, and all of us to ensure that this crucial piece of legislation becomes the law of the land so that everyone, regardless of who they are or where they live, can access time-sensitive abortion care with dignity and respect.

Message:

As a Californian, I am writing to urge you to support the Women’s Health Protect Act (WHPA).

This important bill would codify into federal law a person’s ability to decide to continue or end a pregnancy, and the ability of health care providers to provide abortion care without restrictions.

It is time that the right to abortion care becomes enshrined in federal law to combat the state-enacted abortion bans sweeping across the nation. If unjust and blatantly unconstitutional state laws like Texas’ SB 8 are allowed to stand, abortion access could be out of reach for millions across the South and Midwest – especially for low-income people, individuals living in rural communities, and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color who already face barriers to comprehensive health care.

We cannot accept a two-tiered health system or reverse 50 years of Supreme Court precedent and progress.

As a Californian, I urge you to call upon Senate Majority Leader Chuck Shumer to bring this important measure to the floor for a vote. And when the time comes, for you to Vote YES to enact the WHPA.
