SB 306 has cleared the California legislature and is now on the Governor’s desk for consideration. We need your help to urge Governor Newsom to sign this important measure into law and expand access to STI prevention and treatment for millions of Californians. Take Action Now.
For the 6th year in a row, STI rates have been on the rise in California and across the country.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 1 in 5 people in the United States (U.S.) – and nearly 340,000 Californians – have an STI.
While STIs are common in all communities, the STI epidemic is disproportionately impacting Black, Indigenous and people of color, rural regions, youth, and LGBTQ+ Californians. Studies conducted by the CDC suggest a range of factors linked to social determinants of health likely contribute to STI rate disparities, including inequitable access to safe, culturally competent, quality health, mental health and substance use treatment services, as well as high rates of incarceration, lack of access to economic mobility and education opportunities, adequate housing, racial segregation, and racism. These disparities are expected to worsen as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The time for action is long overdue.
Urge Governor Newsom to improve health outcomes and create a more equitable health system by signing SB 306 into state law!
